Citation Employment Law: Secret Santa Gifts in the Office Could Lead to Legal Proceedings
December 18, 2009, 11:04 am

In recent years the process of “Secret Santa”, where colleagues exchange gifts anonymously, has become a Christmas tradition in offices across Britain. But buying the wrong gift could land you, and your company, in some serious bother.

Tongue-in-cheek presents, such as giving a bottle of hair dye to an ageing colleague, could lead to legal proceedings if the joke is taken the wrong way.

Even gifts that seem innocuous to the donator could be classed as inappropriate; for example, a bottle of wine could cause offence to a co-worker who does not drink alcohol for religious reasons.

Last year, a policeman in Luton was forced to resign after giving a Muslim colleague a packet of bacon and a bottle of wine as a Secret Santa gift. While the colleague in question did not complain personally, the incident was referred to the PC’s senior officers, which led to his resignation.

One way you could prevent a similar scenario occurring at your business is by investing in an employment law implementation service from a company like Citation.

Citation protects over 6000 businesses across the UK, providing a Queen’s Award-winning Employment Law service that is both practical and legally accurate. One of their qualified experts will work with you to help reduce your business’s exposure to unwanted legal disputes.

Should an employment tribunal be brought against you by an employee, Citation’s unique Advice Guarantee means that their dedicated employment tribunal team will take complete control of the cause on your behalf. This includes representation at the tribunal itself, as well as handling any representation costs, compensation awards, or other financial settlements as agreed by the Citation team on your behalf.

Citation clients also have access to a 24/7 Employment Advice line, and an online business tool that allows businesses to record vital data about their employees, such as holiday entitlements, sickness absences, company cars issued, etc.

For more information about Citation and the services they provide, visit the Citation website.

Oceania Unveils Plans for Premier Suites on New Cruise Ship Marina

Oceania cruise line has revealed new plans for luxury suites on its newest cruise ship Marina.

The Marina is Oceania’s first ever newly built ship; weighing 66,000 tons and holding around 1250 passengers, Oceania will launch the ship in January 2011.

The three Owner’s Suites on the Marina will be twice the size of their counterparts on Oceania’s Regatta, Insignia and Nautica ships. With decor designed by New York company Tocor Interior Design, these 2500sq ft luxury suites will appeal to travellers who want the privacy of their own yacht-like living quarters, whilst still enjoying all of the benefits of big-ship cruising.

The suites boast a number of exciting and innovative features. Each suite has its own wrap-around deck with private outdoor Jacuzzi. Guests can also arrange for meals from any of the Marina’s restaurants to be delivered and served to them directly in the privacy of their Owner’s Suite.

The plans were unveiled at the trade showroom of Ralph Lauren Home, who will be providing the furnishings for the new suites, in New York City on Friday (11/12).

Frank del Rio, chairman of Oceania’s parent company Prestige Cruise Holdings, said of the new ship: “Marina is the latest incarnation of what the Oceania brand stands for, such as service, food and decor. We’d like to think everything revolves around good taste. We didn’t want just another ship.”

Bookings for the Marina’s maiden voyages will go on sale from 13th January.

P&O Cruises prepares to add a new ship P&O Adonia to their fleet
December 14, 2009, 3:02 pm

P&O Cruises has announced that they will add a new cruise ship to their fleet. The ship will be small and is intended to replace the Artemis which is scheduled to leave P&O Cruises in 2011.

At the present time, the cruise ship is being operated by Princess Cruises under the name Royal Princess. There are accommodations on board the ship for approximately 710 passengers. There are a total of 355 staterooms of which most include a balcony.

P&O Cruises will rename the ship Adonia, which will join the fleet in June of 2011. It is expected that Adonia will feature an adult-only environment. Itineraries for the cruise ship will include smaller ports that larger cruise ships can’t access.

Passengers sailing aboard the Adonia will be able to take advantage of a sizable library that includes around 4,000 books. There will be a grand lounge that features a stage for entertainment. A dance floor will also be included in the lounge. In keeping with the P & O tradition, Adonia will feature a nautical theme.

Carol Marlow, the managing director of P&O Cruises said “The addition of Adonia will deliver an elegant and welcoming ship with real small ship charm. Whilst larger ships have their own appeal, with the spectrum of bars, dining and entertainment choices they can offer, others really enjoy a smaller ship, with its more intimate ambience.

MSC Cruises to launch a scent infused cruise ship
December 14, 2009, 2:43 pm

MSC Cruises just announced it has partnered with BRAND sense in order to offer passengers a scent infused cruise experience. BRAND sense has developed a signature fragrance for MSC Cruises called MED.

Passengers on board the MSC Splendida will be able to enjoy the first ship in the industry to implement this new sensory experience. MSC Cruises will distribute MED through Splendida’s air conditioning system. The toiletries used on board the cruise ship will also be infused with the refreshing scent of MED.

MSC Cruises went to great lengths to ensure that the scent they were infusing throughout the Splendida would accurately represent their brand. The scent was required to be noticeable enough to associate with MSC Cruises, without being too overbearing for its widespread distribution on the ship.

MSC Cruises has also made a name for itself as being extremely friendly to the environment. Passengers can rest assured that MED has been designed to adhere to their green standards.

Simon Harrop, who is involved with the marketing of BRAND sense, said “Whenever we encounter a product, an advert, a shop or a brand we have a sensory experience. Brands know this and they care deeply about that brand perception, in fact each year billions of dollars are invested in creating and improving that perception. But traditionally the investment, thought, energy and time have been focused only on sight and sound.

MSC Splendida is the newest addition to the cruise line’s fleet entering service in July of 2009.

Knowsley Safari Park: Become a “Keeper for a Day” this Christmas at Knowsley Safari Park
December 9, 2009, 4:28 pm

If you are struggling for gift ideas this Christmas, why not treat the animal lover in your life to a day as a keeper at Knowsley Safari Park.

The Keeper for a Day experience allows you to get up close and personal with the Safari Park’s wildlife, and is something that your loved one will remember for a lifetime.

The day begins with a hot drink and a chat with the general manager, or the curator of animals. You will have the opportunity to discuss what you hope to experience during the day, and highlight which animals or areas of the park are of your particular interest.

After this meeting you will head off to your first job of the day. This could be anything from checking on all the inhabitants of the bug house, to sorting out the day’s feed for the Lake Farm animals, or even taking on the mammoth task of helping to muck out the elephants’ enclosure.

During the day you will get to spend time with all of the Safari Park’s animals, as well as their dedicated keepers, and you will get to see the action of the park from behind the scenes. This is a real “warts and all” adventure, and certainly not for the faint-hearted, but it is also a once-in-a-lifetime exsperience.

Although the keeper day experience is for one person only, there will be opportunities to meet up with any relatives or friends in the park at lunch or at the end of the day.  These guests will be required to pay the normal admission rate.

The keeper day costs £250, and will come in the form of a gift certificate that can be redeemed at the recipient’s discretion. Keeper days can be run on any day of the week, though they are limited to only three keeper days in any one week, so it is advised that the days are booked in advance with Knowsley Safari Park as soon as possible. All participants must be over 18 years of age at the time of the keeper day.

For more information about the Keeper for a Day experience, or to book your own day, call 0151 430 9009, or visit the Knowsley Safari Park website.
